Thai Massage is an extraordinary method of aligning the energies of the body, and originates from India during the time of the Buddha.
It uses passive stretching and gentle pressure along energy lines and looks very much like a cross between shiastu, acupressure, and yoga. Pressure is applied along meridian lines using thumbs, hands, and feet to stimulate the movement of energy in the body. You are also moved and stretched in Yoga-like poses to free muscular and joint tension. It improves flexibility, reduces tension, stimulates internal organs, and balances the body's energy system.
Thai massage is a floor massage, where the client lies fully dressed on a pad or light mattress. Every movement is designed to support you as well as the therapist. Because it is classified as a meditative practice, you are left feeling relaxed and energized at the end of your treatment.
Thai Massage is offered by many of the spas listed in the Health Spa Guide. For a full listing of those offering this treatment, see below
