Tai-chi is a Chinese system of physical exercises designed especially for mental and physical harmony, meditation and self-defense.
It consists of a set of soft slow, graceful movements. These slow, external movements help to stimulate the internal organs, by promoting the flow of internal energy called Qi (Chi). It's philosophy and principles are based on the concept of yin and yang.
Tai-chi was originally developed by monks in China to protect themselves against bandits and warlords, as the monasteries were often located deep in the mountains. Combining their fighting technique with the importance of meditation and spiritual growth Tai-chi was born. Many different types, have sprung from the original style, varying from monastery to monastery, But all holding the core principles.
