Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa in Sandton, Johannesburg, lies in the heart of the business and entertainment area set in extensive gardens with a wonderful country feel.

This superb property is a full-service 5-star graded hotel which offers both professionalism and the personal ambience of a stately home. Excellent security and privacy.

To borrow from the Deloitte & Touche definition of a luxury boutique: "They are small, highly individualistic operations, unlike modern purpose built hotels. They are usually buildings of character, are normally set in their own grounds in peaceful surroundings, and have high standards of hospitality and cuisine. Luxury boutique hotels have an atmosphere, that suggests gracious living. To stay in one is an experience in itself rather than a functional necessity."

The Fairlawns Hotel was established in January 1998, on the Sandton property once belonging to The Little Brenthurst Trust of Oppenheimer fame. The present Windsor, Empire, French ProvenÇial and African suites are built on the foundations of the old stables and cow shed. The property was once adjacent to the Ernest Ullman Park, with an historic cottage belonging to the parents-in-law of Ernest Ullman (a famous South African sculptor) being situated on the grounds. Unfortunately this section of the property has since been sold off.

The Fairlawns Hotel and Spa was the brainchild of John & Anna Thacker, the owners, who wanted to create 'something really special' and out of the ordinary in the mould of a Relais and Chateau Hotel. The architecture is in the Palladium style which is reminiscent of 18th Century Europe. Apart from the beautiful surroundings and warm, homely ambience that is unerringly remarked upon, the emphasis is on personal service. This is evident by the remarks in the Visitors' Book. Staff are regularly advised that 'going the extra mile' is a requirement at The Fairlawns, Johannesburg, and wherever humanly possible, every effort is made to accommodate a guest's wishes.
