In Jo'burg we never seem to tire of getting out of Jo'burg, no matter where in Jo'burg we are from. This was once again proven upon my arrival at Tranquil Water Spa - my fellow guests came from as far as Brakpan and Alberton. What I find truly wonderful, is that there are so many spas that make it possible for us to get out of town - all that we need to do, is to put on our spa slippers and hop on a shuttle bus!
The Tranquil Water shuttle bus departs early in the morning from Broadacres shopping centre and zoots you off on the 22 km journey to the spa in Rhenosterspruit, just past Lanceria Airport. Though you can go in your own vehicle, the last 6 km of bumpy, grinding gravel road is only a 4x4's dream. I think that once the construction trucks from the neighbouring in-development Gary Player estate have completed their work, the road will be graded and more usable. Then again, why on earth would you want to drive there if you could be driven there!
Tranquil Water Spa is literally at the end of the road to nowhere - the last bit of civilisation in a country setting of gently rolling hills and converging rivers. The house, now turned spa, is right on the banks of the Jukskei River. This part of the river is rocky and windy and the river gurgles and gushes past the spa, just as you would imagine a river should. A massive, striking rock outcrop presides over the spa and is not only a landmark feature, but also home to dassies, a wild goat and enormous leguan. Though many guests think that these giant reptiles are crocodiles, fear not, they are just fat and happy, unthreatened and non-threatening monitors. Become aware of the birds of prey circling overhead and the Egyptian Geese and other water birds frolicking in the river... all of this is your entertainment for the day while you lie on your deckchair on the green-green lawn that slopes down to the river sipping bubbly, a glass of wine, water or herbal tea.
Another outstanding characteristic of the spa is Beulah's attention to detail when it comes to the food. The freshest ingredients are used to prepare delicious and interesting meals and the food presentation is fun and creative. A light, healthy breakfast is served when you arrive and scrumptious, miniature, freshly baked scones are served as a mid-morning snack. Lunch is decadently wholesome and generous.
The therapists have years of experience and the newer ones are very well trained. They are constantly attending courses to learn new methodologies and searching for innovative new products to use. This is especially noticeable in their attention-to-detail massages and facial. I was also very impressed with the lymph-drainage techniques that are applied during the massages.
The NOW IN JOHANNESBURG! Cape Winelands detox or anti-stress treatments are available as full and half day packages. Some of the treatments, such as the hand and foot massages, as well as the Jacuzzi, are outdoors (weather pending, of course). What makes this a truly tranquil outing is that you are not rushed between treatments and that there will never be more than 10 people, leaving you with plenty of time to relax in your favourite spot. The only time they will break the limited numbers rule, is if you book the entire venue for a function or corporate outing. Keep an eye out for their evening packages…
