After a week of fighting city traffic, I was in serious need of some destressing. And that’s exactly what I got at Spinnakers on the Bay. Located on Blouberg’s golden mile with postcard views of Table Bay and Table Mountain, this boutique bed and breakfast and day spa is perfect for an afternoon of pampering treats. I was warmly greeted and offered something to drink while I waited for my appointment with the resident beauty therapist, Tanya. I took the opportunity to enjoy the stunning view from the deck overlooking the splash pool. The space is modern and decorated in an understated, tasteful beach style.

Tanya was soon ready for me and took me through to the treatment room. The area is large enough to accommodate two guests at a time, making it perfect for couples who enjoy having treatments together, but also intimate and cosy enough for one. I had chosen the Hot Stone Grande full-body massage and was soon ensconced on the massage bed, which has been warmed with an electric blanket to take the edge off the slightly chilly wind that was blowing outside. Making sure I was comfortable, Tanya began working her magic. I was pummelled and kneaded from top to toe with the deliciously warm stones that are the hallmark of this treatment. Tanya’s approach was professional and discreet throughout, she gave me the opportunity to truly unwind, so much so that I caught myself dropping off to sleep more than once! My treatment ended with a delicate facial massage using special small pebbles, something I have not experienced before. All too soon it was all over, and I left feeling ready to take on another week of city smog and traffic jams!

Spinnakers on the Bay has seven B&B suites, three of which are sea-facing. The spa welcomes day visitors and can accommodate groups of up to eight guests at a time, and has a splash pool and a jacuzzi. It offers a good selection of competitively priced treatments, and uses Decléor and Moya products. It also offers half- and full-day packages, including packages tailor-made for moms-to-be. These include a breakfast or light lunch. Make-up, including bridal packages, is also on the menu. Spinnakers also offers seasonal specials, which are very well priced.

I'll definitely be heading back for a return visit the next time I feel the need for a bit of me-time.
