R&R Health and Skin Care Spa - Johannesburg

After a stressful week, I was more than ready for a little rest and relaxation at the aptly named R?R Health and Skin Care, a day spa tucked away in Greenside, an unlikely but convenient setting.

The private off street parking leads into a calm oasis, with soothing neutrals and natural materials. Owner Anschone's motto is 'you rest, while we recreate a new you' and I was looking forward to a few hours of sheer indulgence.

Listening to my therapist Tshego explain the treatments which comprise the three-hour summer delight, a signature treatment at the spa, made me sigh with eager anticipation.

With a room dedicated to spa treatments it means you don't have to leave the room at all and can unwind and enjoy the succession of treatments, which started with an all over body exfoliation using a gorgeous fruity mixture. This was followed by a moisturising body wrap and while I got to enjoy the full benefits Tshego gave me the option of a scalp or foot massage.

By now I was well on my way to a state of absolute bliss and having to slide off the massage table into the soothing milk bath required a lot of effort. After thirty minutes of soaking I was reduced to a languid state of relaxation and ready for the piece de résistance - a full body lomilomi massage.

This Hawaiian massage technique does not rely on hands, Tshego only used her forearms. Starting with my feet, by the time she reached my shoulders I was truly a new me. Anschone believes energy flows where attention goes, so the focus is always totally on the client. This was definitely the case with my treatment and I felt stress and tension ease out of me.

Having been in the industry for 13 years, Anschone say she is living and working her passion. "Two years ago I was lucky enough to be able to plan and design the spa from the ground up, so could make sure the spa conforms to my specific requirements."

She says the four elements of fire, water, air and wind are all encompassed within the spa, with each treatment room having a water feature.

The spa stocks Anesi, Dermalogica, Environ, Depileve, Magnetic Nails, Coverderm, Patricia Clark, Laguna Afrocology, Milk Solutions, Prophuzion lip and eye serum and Koebana self tan products.
