Review by Lisa Anderson-Morshead
I have recently immigrated to Cape Town from Johannesburg, so I am always excited at the prospect of a reason to go somewhere new as I am forced to get out of my comfort zone and go exploring.
This has been happening periodically since I arrived as I am a wedding coordinator and I have had ample opportunity thus far to discover the wine farms. This particular exploration however, was to a part of Cape Town that I would have said didn't exist had I not heard its name mentioned. Who would need to go to West Beach Blauuwberg? Me!
There just happens to be a fantastic golf course called Atlantic Beach AND a brilliant Day Spa……which I have now discovered.
I walked into the Revive Spa an exhausted bunch of nerves, as I had flown in the night before from a wedding on the South Coast. I felt like I needed a holiday….but when?????
The warm welcoming environment of this unique little day spa was just the perfect place to have found as it was a relaxation station which was only 15 minutes from my front door.
Although my need for pampering is always a bit melodramatic, I loved the fact that I could let the Spa know that there wasn't anything really wrong with me on their very detailed client information form. I could however communicate immediately any concerns I had about my body, skin and general state of mind.
Armed with the information I had given her, the owner Karina Els and her therapists took over!
I was scrubbed and showered where after I was allowed to enjoy a glass of champagne and fruit platter in the jacuzzi, in anticipation of what I am told is their forte…..a deep relaxing massage. The hydrotherapy however was the perfect way to tone down, chill out and unwind.
I was interested to know whether the therapist would pick up on the fact that I had mentioned preferring a firm massage.
I took one look at the petite, gorgeous blonde introduced to me as Anneke and took a bet with myself that the firm massage would never happen.
I lay down face first and was pleasantly surprised by the daisy floating in a bowl for my eyes to rest on.
Anneke was right on the money. Her massage skill was firm, adept, highly professional and sensationally thorough. She massaged my ankles! Now I do a lot of exercise and believe you me your ankles take strain.I am still not sure where she got all that strength.
The essential oils, mixed with the amazing blackout effect of the lavender eye pillow, the Indian head massage and the Gregorian chants over the sound system, finally sent me right over the edge into a heavenly and trancelike slumber.
Lunch - a large chicken salad and delicious health bread- was laid out by the pool where I almost struggled to bring myself back to the earthliness of eating. Note: If I had been hungry, I would not have been left disappointed with the spread that was laid out.
After lunch I felt refreshed, rested and very relaxed. I was given a fantastic pedicure and manicure including a hand and foot heated mask, which was done with acute professionalism.
Not only have I discovered a day spa, but I feel like I now have new friends, confidantes and seriously professional nurturers that I can go to when I need a bit of reviving.
PS. The Revive Spa has aced the art of his and hers pamper and massage treatments, converting the worst of male tag-a-longs brought in by eager wives, to avid day spa regulars!
