Review by Rebecca Dodd
The Mount Nelson Hotel is a Capetonian institution, and you’ll find hotel guests and locals alike haunting its tea room and Planet Bar. Another addition to the Pink Palace’s legacy is Librisa Spa, which is sure to become as much of a hit.
Set in the majestic hotel gardens, Librisa Spa boasts eight spacious treatment rooms, a splash pool, steam room and sauna. The décor is luxurious and elegant – from the painted silk wallpaper to the bird tapestries in the treatment rooms. The impression you get is one of tasteful opulence as you ascend the grand staircase to the upper level of treatment rooms.
A special touch is the changing room, where you can undress and stow your belongings in a personal locker before wrapping yourself in a robe to be led to the conservatory. Here you will sip on lemon water or fruit juice and enjoy the view of the garden while awaiting your treatment.
Librisa Spa’s treatments are unique, inventive and luxurious. Massages are custom-designed for different purposes, such as the Jet-lag Massage and Pre-natal Massage. The facials are equally diverse – be sure to try out the African Goddess Facial, which makes use of Librisa’s own oil blend of marula oil, jasmine and South African geranium. An added bonus: while you enjoy the moisturising, restorative face mask, the therapist gently moisturises and massages your hands, arms and feet.
Although the spa offers beauty treatment staples like manicures and waxing, you’ll really want to go for their signature treatments. The body wraps are composed of unusual, exciting ingredients, like the Green Clay Marula and Wild Mint wrap, the Revitalising Ocean wrap, or the Rooibos and Lavender Clay wrap.
Librisa spa also caters for men with the Gentlemen’s Facial, Anti-stress Back Treatment and customised manicures and pedicures. Teens will love the Balancing Facial designed just for them, as well as the Hot Chocolate Mousse Wrap. Kids under 12 can be treated to the Lavender and Aloe Cinderella Facial, a Cocoa Fairy Mask, or a Sparkle Mini Manicure or Pedicure.
For ultimate indulgence, Librisa offers signature experiences: two or more treatments combined either with a spa lunch at the Mount Nelson’s Oasis restaurant or afternoon tea at the hotel. The ‘refresh’ experience is definitely the top pick – consisting of an African Goddess Facial, Mango and Vanilla Body Polish, a Spa Manicure and Pedicure, and a wax or tint of your choice, and finishing off with afternoon tea – this is the ideal package for a bride-to-be or birthday girl.
Whether you’re a guest of the Mount Nelson Hotel or simply a local looking to indulge in some serious pampering, Librisa Spa caters for all your needs – and then some!
