Review by Tanya De Venter
When driving through the gates of Kievits Kroon you cannot help being wowed - as you reach the top of the tree-lined driveway you are greeted with the view of a Cape Dutch estate that unfolds before you.
Shirley, the leisure manager, welcomed me at the spa.
Upon arrival you may hire a towel and gown for R100 (you receive your deposit back when returning the gown and towel). You should also remember to bring comfortable slippers for your visit (they also sell slippers for R20 at the spa).
Christa van der Merwe, marketing manager, describes Kievits Kroon as a tranquil retreat from city life that hosts one of the most advanced thermal facilities in Gauteng - where winter cold can be chased away by relaxing in the indoor heated pool, jacuzzis, steam rooms, hydrotherapy baths and Swiss showers.
Kievits Kroon has a lot of diverse treatments: hydrotherapy baths, pedicures and manicures, full body exfoliations, treatment wraps and massages. When I looked at the spa 'menu' I couldn't decide between an Ahava Body Salt Scrub, a hot stone massage or an Indian head massage. The Eucalyptus Vitality Cinnamon as well as the Honey Milk Bath sounded just as divine. Choices, choices, choices… I asked Shirley to choose for me and she recommended the Full Body Colour Aromatherapy Massage.
While driving to the spa I had thought that these people will have to be good to relax me in just two hours. Little did I know how good they were!
The candle lit room promised a relaxing hour. I had to choose three colours, of which the therapist chooses the middle one, blue. This, she said, represented my future, while the blue oil was to make me calm. She made me feel very special. Don't you just love that - feeling special? I almost fell asleep while relaxing to her soothing hands working on my back.
Clean rooms are a necessity in my eyes and I was glad to see that all their rooms, and equipment and towels were clean.
When visiting Kievits Kroon don't forget your bathing suit, because the steam rooms, saunas, jacuzzis and hydrotherapy baths are there to use, as are the Swiss showers, plunge pools and heated indoor swimming pool.
The buffet lunches will keep you coming back again and again. Self-indulgence rules at Kievits Kroon!
Kievits Kroon is not just a health spa and wellness centre. It also offers conference and wedding reception facilities (with a beautiful chapel and dining area). Accommodation is available and an additional 24 rooms will be added by October. estate. No children under 14 are allowed on the estate.
They have specials on offer throughout the year, however in general their spa prices are quite affordable and reasonable. The current special (at the time of writing) is a a wonderful special Kaleidoscope of Colours that includes two nights of accommodation plus two spa treatments.
These spa treatments include: Colour Therapy Full Body Massage, Colour Hydrotherapy Bath, complimentary spa slippers, use of thermae facilities - indoor heated pool, jacuzzis, steam rooms, saunas with all meals included.
When I left the estate I had to think back on my earlier thoughts. They had made me relaxed in just one hour. It felt like I was on cloud number nine. No more muscle pains… and next time I definitely plan on visiting this spa for much longer.
