Health Spa Reviews - The Guru at Impilo Beauty Spa

It is every Jo'burger's dream to break away to a sultry climate during winter. I, for one, have already unpacked my winter wardrobe in Jo'burg, therefore, when I was presented with a chance to dash down to Durban for a day, I grabbed it with a frosty-breathed 'YES!'

Descending from the aircraft in Durban is like being enveloped by a plush Pashmina of KZN air. Instantly all thoughts of the impending winter were eradicated. This delusion prevailed as I drove along the M4 towards Ballito.

All along this exquisitely scenic route I was, as always, mesmerised by the perpetual sub-tropical green of the North Coast and the seemingly ever-blooming frangipanis. Sigh. I was off to a good start!

Impilo Beauty Spa is easily located at the 5-star Hotel Izulu by simply taking the Ballito turn-off and driving towards the town. Clear signage to the hotel is almost immediately on your right.

Impilo uses only Clarins products and with that comes Clarins' unique, universal training standard and techniques. Bronwyn was my therapist for the day and WOW - was I in for a treat.

She has THE TOUCH - transforming her craft into a fine art of ingenious healing and relaxation. My first taste of it was with a full body scrub that was the most wonderful I have ever had. Your entire body literally pulsates with sensation.

After the exfoliation, I was submerged into a perfectly heated, very sophisticated jet-bath - the first I have ever seen with built-in cushions. I was adrift in bubbles of rose petals with hibiscus, daisies and candles scattered all around.

Oh, I mustn't forget to mention that prior to the half-hour bubble, I was given the option to rinse myself off in the super-duper, deluxe shower. I felt like a child in a toy store, there were so many buttons and gadgets. I wasn't sure which ones to try out first, so in the end I simply tried them all!

Then came the hot stone massage. This has always been one of my personal favourites and Bronwyn's skill and energy turns it into an indulgence beyond description. If that wasn't enough, her true colours really shone through during the reflexology. She is able to analise an entire lifestyle by picking up on the various problem areas via your feet. Her level of accuracy is mind-boggling.

To round it all off, I was handed a delicious, homemade smoothie. I will be back not only to enjoy one or two of the other treatments we didn't have time for, but also to try some of the yummy looking food from the spa menu!
