The truth about diets and dieting is that if they are sensible and well balanced (many are not) they ARE good for the body. But they MUST go hand-in-hand with exercise.
The exercise side of the dieting equation
The fact is, and this is the diet companies' best kept secret, that exercise, not diets and dieting, will lead you to lose weight! If you burn more energy than you consume, you WILL lose weight.
Exercise? Yeucch! What's that?
Not that frightening! No need to run the Comrades Marathon. Or even run the SPAR 10 kilometre race. Your body burns energy, even when it is sleeping. But you do need to do more exercise, unless you eat like a mouse. Visits to the gym, fairly brisk walks, walking up stairs instead of catching the lift, even sex, burn energy.
The ONLY thing you have to do, is to burn more energy than you consume. Sensible eating, combined with sufficient exercise will work. Diets and dieting are only short term solutions, unless you plan to diet forever!
