Many South African health spas offer aerobics. The Health Spas Guide for South Africa lists those that do. Check the listing below...
The typical aerobics exercise starts with a warm-up phase, which generally uses movements with a low to moderate speed and range of motion.
This section of aerobics is mainly designed to promote body awareness, raise the core temperature of the body and to
increase blood flow to the muscles.
The aerobics workout itself is aimed at improving
cardio-respiratory endurance and body composition and uses
large body movements performed continuously so that the heart
rate remains elevated.
Following the aerobic workout, a cool-down phase reduces the heart rate toward resting levels and prevents excessive pooling of blood in the lower extremities.
An aerobics exercise ends with stretching and relaxation exercises. The cool-down is designed to
lower the heart rate, help prevent muscle soreness,
enhance flexibility and re-establish homeostasis
or equilibrium.
Water aerobics, Martial arts and Jazz
Currently popular aerobics formats include Hi-Lo, Low Impact, Martial Arts-based Aerobics, Kick-Boxing, Latin, Hip-hop, Funk and Jazz.
If you are looking for a good all-around form of aerobic exercise, why not try water aerobics? Running, jogging and walking underwater in a pool not only strengthens the leg and hip muscles but helps to develop cardio-respiratory fitness.
Various aerobics sessions are offered at the following spas.
